Charter Communications ISP Subscribers March 15th, 2002
Back in March of 2001 we learned Charter ran web cache servers to help speed up many web sites and conserve bandwidth. Unfortunately all of them had been setup insecurely. We worked with them then for 3 weeks via e-mail and conference calls to help them to determine a fix and implement it ASAP. Everything had been working fine up until December.

With the end of @home.com many of their customers were switched to Charter. With this change, came problems for many of our users. When Charter was rushing to set up new pipelines in December they inadvertently forgot to properly set up and configure the web cache servers so that they were secure. We have been in contact with them since early December regarding this. We let them know of the improper configurations that has made them insecure, provided them with information to fix it, as well as provided them the names of the people we worked with in March in their company who likewise could explain to them how to fix it.

It has now been about a month and these insecurities aren`t getting removed, they are in fact only being added to with more and more areas now coming up as insecure. Currently the areas that are effected are - Texas, Washington, North Carolina, Wisconsin, and Georgia. The largest area hit by this is Fortworth, Texas with over 100 users banned. Last we heard it was scheduled to be fixed in early January but we still have no real verification of any of these web caches getting secured.

The best way to insure this gets fixed ASAP is to call Charter and let them know you are effected by the problem with the web cache servers so they know what IPs to be looking at while testing. This likewise will give you the ability to let them know that this issue is of a GREAT PRIORITY for you. As soon as we get word that this is fixed, we will remove all bans and email the ETG users that have wrote to support@EnterTheGame.Com about the problem. We all hope this is taken care with lightening speed so the users can get back to enjoying their time with their friends and clans.
