Anime Overview
What`s anime? Well, let`s tell you what it isn`t, first: contrary to some beliefs, anime is not "warez" nor is it solely hentai. Hentai is an anime genre which contains explicit or adult/pornographic sexual behaviour or artwork. This form of anime is NOT allowed on EnterTheGame. When we refer to anime, we`re talking about Japanese animation, often characterized by stylized colorful graphics depicting vibrant characters in fantastic or futuristic action-filled plots.

ETG welcomes people who fansub anime to use our network. What`s fansubbing? It`s short for "fan subtitled"; a copy of a foreign movie or television show (most often anime) which has been subtitled by "fans" into their native language. Though the unlicensed distribution of movies and television programs is a violation of copyright law, prosecutions almost never occur. Most fansub groups will not distribute a product that becomes "licensed" in their country, which is the term used to describe a series or movie where there is an announced intent or evidence for future distribution by the company who holds the copyright. It is generally accepted that for Japanese fansubbing, there is an unspoken agreement between the fansubbers and Japanese copyright holders that fansubs help promote a product. To be clear, LICENSED anime is NOT allowed to be distributed or subtitled on ETG. At all. We monitor channels to ensure this rule is adhered to, using www.animeondvd.com and www.envirosphere.com as resources. If you are not sure if a particular anime is licensed, please check those sites first.

ETG`s stance in allowing fansubbers and anime enthusiasts on our network has more than a few reasons behind it. First and foremost is the fact that a vast majority of console games are based on or have anime influence, as do a huge number of PC games. We`ve also found the ages of people interested in anime mirror the ages of people who are interested in and play computer/console games. In fact, often there`s no separation at all - our "gaming" crowd are anime enthusiasts also! And when you also consider the number of anime Quake3 and other gaming mods represented on the network, the choice was easy. It`s our opinion that we offer extra value to our userbase in welcoming anime fansubbers and enthusiasts to ETG.

Are you interested in moving your fansub/fan group to ETG? For channel registrations, please review the full set of rules regarding anime channels and then email shaft@enterthegame.com with your desired channelname, channel purpose, website, and list of current projects.

Anime Channel Rules/Regulations:

When a fansub group requests an anime channel, there are rules they must agree to prior to the registration of their channel. Checks are then made to assure that they will comply with those rules. The whole process can take up to two weeks to complete. Below is a portion of the rules anime channels have to agree to before they can be registered:

1. No licensed anime: This refers to any anime series, movie or manga that has been licensed outside of Japan. Even if it has been licensed and not released yet, it is not to be distributed on ETG or subtitled by a group on ETG. When series get licensed you are responsible to remove all copies of them from distribution.

2. If a company that holds the copyright to a material requests that you not sub it or asks you to remove it from distribution, you must comply immediately. Please let us know if this should happen.

3. If you see someone distributing licensed anime or other copyrighted material such as OSTs or artbooks, tell him/her to remove it and inform them of the rules. If you are in charge of the channel it`s being done in and they don`t comply, ban them from the channel. Pleaselet us know if they continue to distribute it. We will immediately confront them about it and remove them from the network if necessary.

4. No hentai. If you are unsure about whether a particular anime is classified as hentai, ask us for clarification. In general, anything of an explicitly sexual or pornographic nature that would garner a minimum NC-17 or X-rating according to MPAA standards would be classified as hentai.

Feel free to visit the rules in full here.
