Beginners Guide To ETG
This is a basic How-To for people new to ETG.

What will be covered in here are:

* Where to get help.
* Registering Channels.
* Adding other admins to your channel
* Simple ChanServ commands (ops, voices, setting keys for private channels)
* Registering Vhosts

Where to get help:

Most questions can be answered in #ETG which is the main network help channel. #Security can help you with your computer security and #linux can help you with linux related questions. If you`re unsure, ask in #ETG and we can direct you to the channel that would probably help you the most if we can`t answer your question.

Registering Channels on ETG:

First, pick a channel name that you want. Be sure it conforms to our Rules. This will be explained more further down.

Second, you need to join that channel and get ops in it. If there is a ChanServ already there, someone has thought of that channel before you and you need to repeat step one.

Third, Join #ETG and ask for an admin or helper to help you register your channel. Wait patiently as the admins and helpers might be busy.

Admins and helpers might ask you to add Clan or Team or Guild or something else distinguishable if we feel the channel name might be a little inappropriate.

We do have certain rules on certain channel names.

Game Named Channels: Channels with gamenames in them need approval from ETG Support. The reason for this is games are under copyright and some game companies/developers want control over those channels. If you`re wanting to make a game specific division for your channel, that`s different. This rule is basically talking about game NAMED channels like #WoW, #Doom3, #UT, but there are other games as well that require ETG Support approval. Web based games, multiplayer browser games and the like need approval. What goes into the email to support is this: Your name (nick on ETG), the channel you want to register and why you believe it should go to you, what you plan on doing with the channel (you need to make sure you update regularly and post problems or releases, websites help with this), when you`re normally on ETG (also state Time Zone please). Registrations for these channels can take longer than 24-72 hours, so be patient on emails. There are things the Admin/Support staff have to check out before granting your channel. support@enterthegame.com

Community Channels: Channels that are going to be set up for a community need to go through ETG Support as well. Regional/State or general channels for communities (#CTF would be an example) need to email as well.

Radio Channels: Channels for online radio stations require ETG Support approval for legality reasons. Gamecasting is a big plus on getting radio stations registered. Community based radio stations (for certain games or mods) are also good. What goes into the email to support is this: Your name (nick on ETG), the channel you want to register and why you believe it should go to you, what you plan on doing with the channel (websites help with this), when you`re normally on ETG (also state Time Zone please). Registrations for these channels can take longer than 24-72 hours, so be patient on emails. There are things the Admin/Support staff have to check out before granting your channel and there are some things you`d have to agree to. support@enterthegame.com

Anime Channels: Channels for anime fansubs and distribution need to email shaft@enterthegame.com. The reason for this is that ETG does not allow licensed anime on ETG. More info will be provided about anime channels on page. What goes into the email to shaft is this: Your name (nick on ETG), the channel you want to register and why you believe it should go to you, what you plan on doing with the channel (websites help with this), when you`re normally on ETG (also state Time Zone please). Registrations for these channels can take longer than 24-72 hours, so be patient on emails. There are things the Admin/Support staff have to check out before granting your channel and there are some things you`d have to agree to. shaft@enterthegame.com

Questionable Channels: From time to time, people request channels that are questionable and they need to email support@enterthegame.com. The person informing that the email needs to be sent should tell you why as well, but if they don`t, you need to provide: Your name (nick on ETG), the channel you want to register and why you believe it should go to you, what you plan on doing with the channel/what it is for, when you`re normally on ETG (also state Time Zone please). Registrations for these channels can take longer than 24-72 hours, so be patient on emails.

Adding other admins to your registered channel:

Sometimes your hostmask changes due to dns changes or your ident has changed. Sometimes you want to add someone else to the adminlist to help you admin your channel. You might get "channel login failed" when trying to do a ChanServ command. In any of these cases, come to #ETG and ask for an admin or helper to get you or your friend added/re-added to the adminlist. In some cases, it might be as simple as your hostmask didn`t resolve. If you`ve moved, you need to know the previous isp you were on.

Simple ChanServ Commands:

ChanServ has a way to set people to ops or voice. Ops are generally @ in a channel and voices are +. Voices are usually used in a channel that`s been moderated so no one can talk but the ops and voices. If you`re an admin in the channel and you want to give ops to your friends through ChanServ, type this:
/msg ChanServ addop #yourchanhere youradminpasshere YourFriendsNickHere
If you want to give your friend voice instead:
/msg ChanServ addv #yourchanhere youradminpasshere YourFriendsNickHere
You can use a universal hostmask to add everyone to voice by:
/msg ChanServ addv #yourchanhere youradminpasshere *!*@*

If you have a private channel that you want only certain people to join, you can set a key. To join a channel that has a key, you would type /join #channelname key
To set the key, you must first be admin in the channel and turn off preventmodes.
/msg ChanServ set preventmodes #yourchannelhere Youradminpasshere OFF
Then set the key by
/mode #yourchannelhere +k yourkeyhere
Do not set the key the same as the adminpass

Registering Vhosts:

Vhosts are Virtual Hosts. They hide your real host from other users as a security feature that we offer to organizations, clans and teams, we do not register vhosts to Personal Channels or Pickup Channels, nor do we register vhosts for vanity reasons. To register a vhost on ETG, you must first be an admin in the channel for which you want the vhost. Secondly, you join #ETG and ask for an admin to help you register a vhost for your channel. The admin then sends HelperServ your way and you complete the process. You cannot use a free webbased email for vhosts such as hotmail, gmail or yahoo. More information on vhosts can be found in the menu under Vhosts.
